Family Photos

2 and a half years ago, I photographed Olivia when she was just a few days old. Then when she started crawling her mom Sia asked me to take another set of photos as a gift for granny. Then a few days ago I got another suprise call from Sia to say she has had a baby boy, Christian. When I got there I couldn't believe how tiny Christian was, he only weighed 2.7kgs! and I was even more shocked at how Olivia had gotten so big.

When it comes to family photographs with newborns the best advice I can give is to photograph before 2 weeks, that is if mom is feeling up to it. The younger the baby the better. Newborns are less likely to be disturbed while sleeping and they are more pliable so you can get them into different positions. Also they are less likely to have baby acne by then. The next great age is 6-8months, before they are crawling around. They are sitting and discovering their fingers and toes and are very aware of their surroundings. When it comes to 18months -2.5 years then it becomes more of a challenge and a little stressful on the parents because getting the perfect portrait can be impossible so you should accept that the photographs are more about capturing the moment instead of a lovely family portrait. These photographs are just as beautiful and less stressful. Most the time at this age there will be tears if you force them to pose.

The photographs taken here are perfect examples of how easy newborns are and capturing the busy 2 years old.
